Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

Overall the floor is beautiful and I get positive comments all teh time. I had it profesinally installed, and I'm glad I did.

On the down side, the lots were not matched by Lumbar Liquidators staff- and I didn't know ther was a difference- so I have different shades. The installer did his best to organize them in the ebst way possible but still it should have been avoided if LL had been paying attention. They basically said -oops! Also, I bought treds for the stairs, although they are beautiful, they are obviously not the same shade as the floor.

The other issue I have is with the finish. I had several boards, at least two bundles that had blemishes in the finish. The finish also scratches very easily, not the underlying wood though.

I think if the LL stff was paying attention to detail, teh color issues would not have happened. They were very nice to work w though.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

This has been an overall good product. My only complaint would be that some of the boards had bubbles in the finish that were there from the factory. About 5% of them. I would recommend gluing as a nailer will produce a small warping of the board at every nail site.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

I never installed floors before, so I had a friend who has help me get started then I finished the 1000 sq/ft job myself over the next week. It's hard work! Overall we're very happy with the flooring. Be careful when installing with floor nailer... it's not standard 3/4", so you'll need to get a different nailer "shoe" so the nail and planks are lined up and level. I damaged a few boards be being sloppy and not resting the gun on the groove.

We're not having a problem with scratches (even with two crazy cats), but we're careful to vacuum a few times a week. I did just drop a claw hammer on it and it dinged it... although, I'm not surprised by that.

Unbox all the boxes before hand since there are slight variation in color (which we love). You can then mix them up so you don't get a single are a lighter than another. They smell pretty bad when you unbox them but the smell fades over a week or two. The boxes are HEAVY! Unless you're getting just a few boxes, you'll need a truck to pick them up. Remember the transition pieces for doorways, moving to different surfaces (tile, linoleum, etc)!

The material is hard which makes nailing difficult. A pneumatic nailer is a must for nailing. It is hard to get pressure just right. Even a 15 GA nailer had troubles face nailing. A 16 GA wouldn't touch it. The stuff is tough.

Beautiful. Our floor has been in place for three weeks and I am pleasantly surprised with the durability. We have three young children who drop things on it all the time and have not noticed any dents or scratches. We did place felt pads on all the furniture after the floor was installed. Not sure that was entirely necessary, but seemed like a good idea.

The best thing since sliced bread. I first used it in my kitchen. Wonderful, the richness of the color!!! About three-months later I decided to continue throughout my entire downstairs. That turned out to be DRAMA because the colors did not exactly match, after I got over the shock of that, the new color has grown on me! If there is a next time, I will do the job, all at once. The bottom line is both colors are GREAT!!!!!!

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

I'm almost done with over 500 sq ft of self-installing this stuff and all that matters to me is that my wife loves it. The color of the boards can vary greatly (some are very blond, others are dark brown), and that is one of the things we love about it. We have a couple of three year olds who give this flooring a workout with their toys and, yes, there are scratches but I have to get down on my hands and knees to see them. Felt pads under furniture and going shoeless indoors will help limit scratches.

This was my first hardwood install, so I don't have anything to reference it against, but I thought overall it wasn't that difficult if you have a bit of DIY-ability. I rented a pneumatic floor stapler which misfired the staple about 10% of the time. As noted by others, this stuff is essentially battleship armor. Anyway, if you install this yourself I'd recommend having a rotary tool and pliers handy for those many times you will need to remove a wadded-up staple.

I've read many complaints about these boards splitting at the tongue. This is true, but I've not had any issues so far with the finished product. This stuff is top notch, Grade A, two thumbs up material and I'd recommend it to anybody.

All in all, I'm positive we've increased the value of our home by more than the cost of the materials. Thanks, Lumber Liquidators!

Installed product in kitchen, dining room and walk in closet. Looks good but the flooring arrived much darker than sample. Since it was hauled from nearest store (170 miles away) returning entire amount wasn't an option. Professionally installed with only minor problem. Scratches very easily and dark color really makes them stand out! Buyer beware.

Installed 500 sq ft over 1 weekend. All you need is a table saw, miter saw and a brad nailer. Some of the pieces were a little too hard and bent the nails.

I have read some reviews about a chemical odor remaining after the floors were installed. Finished yesterday and the smell was gone this morning.

We love our floor. We have 2 kids, 1 large dog, and 3 cats and so we needed a flooring that wouldn't scratch easily. This flooring seems to be able to take on all the traffic. We had 400 sq feet installed in the living room and the main hall. It looks beautiful. The installation took a long day, but was worth it. The color of the stranded is very nice - you can tell it's bamboo, but we prefer the less noticable knuckles - and the richness of the stranded color.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

IMPORTANT NOTE: as others have suggested, make sure you mix and match as many boxes as you can. We began with a lighter colored living room (mixing 5 boxes at a time), and then ran into several boxes in a row that were quite dark. So we used as much of the dark as possible in one room, and were then able to mix and match again to the medium color as seen in the photos. Watch for splinters! They sting.

The bamboo is beautiful. It is very, very heavy, too. We laid around 2600 sq. ft. in about a week on a concrete floor downstairs, and a wood subfloor upstairs. I had never laid flooring and was specially nervous about starting right. So i hired a pro to help. Spreading the glue for an amateur can be a nightmare... it gets on everything! The pro spread the glue, another helper cut, and i installed after some helpful instruction. It was pretty straightforward.

I'd suggest using the softer, rubber knee pads as the harder plastic scratches the floor.

The planks went together relatively easy, but we did have some glue seep up between the seams. It was easily removed with paint thinner, or, after drying, with a knife.

I wonder if this floor can be refinished or if it will just splinter?

The wood quality is very good. However, we didn't know that the wood came from different batches until after our master bedroom was half way done. The wood color and grain were so much different that I had to stop at 2 diff stores to exchange for a similar color. I wish I knew to double check the date stamp on the boxes, something to be cautious about. Otherwise, good quality for the price.

These bamboo floors are wonderful! I had my experienced contractor put it in. He loved it too. He was amazed that there were no "bad" boards that were warped or unusable. We have about 1200 sq ft and went through our kitchen, breakfast, hallways, master bath, etc. We put it everywhere. This floor has a durable, hard finish. We rolled our 26 cu ft fridge around on it...no problem. Comes in 3 ft long boards. This is a bit more variable in color tones between boards than I expected but looks fabulous! I'm an engineer and very picky but this stuff looks great and our contractor was incredibly skilled at installation. I think I've "sold" a few others on installing this floor already and our installation project just ended today. I can't say enough good things about this floor. Don't hesitate. One option--buy one box, lay it out and look at it.

This was our first time installing a hardwood floor. I bought 11 boxes and only 1 piece had a chipped end. We chose to glue down the wood because we were installing it on a concrete foundation. The boards were easy to cut and didn't chip. We only scratched one piece throughout the installation, but that was caused sliding the board puller across a corner piece. Overall the wood seems to be durable, but only time will tell. We like this floor a lot and will be installing it in the rest of our house.

We built a new house and had our contractor install this floor. He was worried about using bamboo as the regular bamboo is soft. After he saw it he was surpised at how beautiful it was. They bent a few nails because it is so strong. We have 2 large breed dogs and they do put a few scratches in it (which is to be expected) but they are hardly noticible. We also installed the stair treads and floor vents. I will say the floor vents have faded quite a bit but they still look nicer than white vents would have. I must say I love the floor. Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

This was my first time installing any type of wood floor, so I was a bit apprehensive. But I bought a PowerNailer #50P and used 18ga, 1-1/4" cleats (don't forget practice nailing on a board first!). Based on all I read about its superior hardness, I predrilled for all face nailing, using #4 finish nails. The predrilling takes more time, but it was worth it. I just finished a small 100SF room, and plan on installing at least another 900SF in bedrooms. Love the durability, color and board consistency (both height & width) as well as the "green" factor. I can't say enough good things about this product.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

Had our contractor install the strand floors in all rooms but bathrooms and kitchens of our 100 year-old rowhouse.

The floors look great, the wood is very tough, so a high-psi professional nail gun is recommended!

They've been in a few weeks now, hope they look this good in a year.

Bamboo is more eco friendly than hard wood. It does behave differently than grained wood. There should have been a good instruction sheet on some of the differences.

The boards are very uniform in color and grain. There isn't one that your eye doesn't go to and wish you hadn't used. It looks like regular hardwood but it is a green product. The material/color is all the way through the board not a laminate on top. All boards come in the same size so installation goes fast. No looking for the next size to use. Highly recommend!

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

It was a lot of work but so worth it. I love the way it turned out. I installed just under 1000 square feet in just over 2 weeks with almost no help.
This is a very hard product so I bent a lot on the nails where I had to blind nail. I found that the darker the board the harder it was so I tried not to use any of the darker boards where I had to blind or face nail. The pneumatic floor nailer worked great with this product.
There are some color variations from light to dark. I worked from many boxes at a time to assure an nice random look and it looks great. There is very little waste mostly the random finish bubble or split tongue.Even with those I was usually able to use a most or at least a portion of the board. I did have to stagger the boards to create a random look since the boards are all uniform length. This accounted for the bulk of the waste but with planning I was able to use the cut ends on the other side of the room most of the time. I had quite a bit left over and only figured about 5% for waste to begin with. I hvae installed oak in a previous home and had considerably more waste and quite a few unusable boards. Thats not a problem with this product.
When I unpacked the bamboo to let it acclimate there was a very strong oder like burnt caramel that lasted several days but it does go away eventually. If you are sensitive you should be aware of this. The first night it prompted us to go out for dinner.
I don't think there is a better product on the market for this price range and with 12 months same as cash I couldn't pass it up.
The end result is beautiful and worth all the hard work and bent nails.

Very attractive product that seems very durable. We had carpet and Pergo on the first floor and replaced everything with Bamboo. The bamboo is quite compared to the Pergo and the finish is beautiful. Used a bosch floor stapler shimmed out and a 15 guage finish nailer with 2 1/2 inch finish nails for face nailing. Anything smaller than the 15 guage just bent on impact. The wood is extremely dense and does not scratch or dent easily. Next project is ripping off the toungue and using it as a toe kick under the cabinets in the kitchen. I have placed a few pieces under to get an idea on how it looks and it looks great.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

This floor is extremely beautiful and the guys at Lumber Liquidators were very helpful. The bamboo is actually harder than oak and at times made the installation tricky. I purchased a Ramsond floor nailer from [...] for [$] delivered and it served me well with the 900 sq.ft of flooring I had to install. I put the flooring in our master bedroom, hallway, living room and dining room over the course of about 1 1/2 weeks - working around my job and family commitments. If I had been able to do it full time, it probably would have taken me 3 - 4 days with moving furniture, lifting carpet etc. We love the look and feel and with two teenage boys and a Golden Retriever we haven't seen any scratches or dents - yet.My only advice would be to ensure that whatever nailer/stapler you purchase, make sure you test a few settings out on a piece or two to make sure that you have the proper settings. I used about 95 psi delivered and that seemed to work fine for me, but you may find you need more or less - play with it before starting.

At first I felt sorry for my husband since he has never installed flooring before. But after we got the right tools and figured it out the process went smoothly. These floors were probably more difficult to put in than other hardwoods (since they are dense and harder than oak...hence scratch resistant), but we would do it all over again. We have it in our dining room and foyer and they look awesome! We also have 3 dogs and a cat, and we have no scratches to speak of. We plan on putting these in our office and family room also.

Flooring looks fantastic we have recieved many compliments. The begining was quite frustrating we almost gave up I'm so glad we didn't. At first the nails were bending no matter what we did we couldn't get them to go in. finally we used an 18 gauge with 1 1/2 inch nails. it's all about finesse, we found that the gun had to be held at just the right angle on the tongue otherwise it would either split the bamboo or bend. once we found the proper angle it went super smooth and easy. well worth the effort. The only con we found was that the reducer we needed for the transition between floors did not match despite the fact that they(LL) repeatedly tried to get us the proper coloring it was always very light. Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

This is a beautiful product. It is very, very hard. A good thing, except when you are trying to use a brad nailer (16ga) for face nails or on the tongue (as discussed in other reviews). Most boards reject brad nails (even at high PSI settings). One then has to resort to pre-drilling and hand nailing for any place the pneumatic floor nailer would not fit. One concept I figured out is that not all boards are the same hardness. The lighter colored and more 'stripey' boards would accept a face nail.
It is very straight, so you do not have to deal with warped boards. 10% unusable is a good estimate. This is mainly due to bubbles in the finish, only a couple boards were improperly milled.
I used the Powernail 50P pneumatic floornailer. It worked like a champ.
Some of the other reviews were very helpful and candid.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

I used this Morning Star Bamboo Strand carbonized wood flooring to replace carpeting... I wish I had done this a long time ago but one thing led to another and time really flies when your always working on something around the house... The flooring is a great alternative to the traditional "hardwood" floorings... I would recommend it to anyone who wants to renew the look of their house and keep in with the "new" GREEN thing that is the IN thing today.I do want to make note that there ARE a few problems that should be noted.... When you order the flooring try to consider some of the Extra's that you might need.... SPLINES for reversing the flooring are one serious consideration. I will admit that when I was ordering the flooring ( and you do have to ORDER it since they do not Stock it in any of the stores) the salesman did say " do you need any splines, thresholds, transitions or 1/4 round moldings?" I mentioned that I would get these things after the installer saw the wood and planned out the installation as I personally did not know what would be needed. It would have been good to know at THAT TIME that none of these products are Stocked in the store and would ahve to be ordered and there is a Lead time in any order. When it came time to do the actual install I went back to the store to get some transition pieces and splines and it was then that I found out that they were only available "on Order". Using Standard purchase Splines from another store proved to be a real pain. Seems these Bamboo flooring products use a special spline that is thinner and narrower than what you would buy at your local [...]. We spent considerable amounts of time with a belt sander shaving down these splines to fit the bamboo flooring.A second thing and this is probably more of an attribute than a Fault... This is ONE TOUGH FLOOR to install. It is as hard as a brick... as the saying goes. My flooring installer said that he had not seen anything this hard since he once installed a product called Brazilian Rainbow Wood. This flooring was installed with a neumatic hapmmer and floor staples. 120 Pounds of air pressure behind every swing of the hammer and in some places those staples just refused to go through the wood. And when it came to edge-nailing the last board you had better pre-drill those nail holes because they don't make a Finishing nail that will penetrate this wood. Even an 18 Guage nailer didn't penetrate this wood... And as a side note I burned out 3 or 4 Drill bits just drilling the holes.Probably my Biggest Disapointment was in the color of ONE box. Although ALL the boxes ordered came with the same lot number ( 080956 ) there was one box that did look as if it was picked up from a different order. We were installing from three boxes as recommended by the manufacturer and things were going nicely... at some point I went out for "Coffee for the Guys" and they pulled several boards from one box not noticing that the wood in this box was darker. It probably would have been better if this box were scattered around the floor but it all ended up in one small area... By the time I got back it was too late to remove this part of the floor and reinstall it in more a random pattern. Fortunately for me this section of flooring ends up under a dining room table and unless your looking for it you don't notice it right off. In retrospect this is great flooring and I am sure that it will outlast ME. I have at least one more room that I will be getting done soon eliminating the last of the Carpeted rooms in the house... The alergies just love this hardwood. Pay the extra... Buy the best... You'll love it but remember the warnings and keep an eye out for that Dark Box in your order.

The installation is fairly simple if you’re not intimidated by pneumatic nailers and a little elbow grease. The overall look and durability is impressive. I tested a couple non-strand bamboo samples that scratched easily and seemed light and cheap. I was hesitant at first because of the price difference, however I have to say it was worth every penny! Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

We installed it in the living room and kitchen. It came out beautiful and we are very happy with the look. It cleans up like a dream. Installation was a bit hairy at first. Setting the psi on the staple gun so it would not splinter the wood was time consuming. We found 70psi to be a good level. Just make sure that the staple gun is level on the flooing and in line with the tounge or edges will chip. But once we got our rythmn down we were off to the races. I highly recommend you have a good saw to make your cuts and nails long enough to nail down the first two to three rows. We had to predrill for those but works like a charm. Would buy again if we did another home. When researching this product, another buyer reported that the flooring gave off a noxious odor, we let it acclimate to the rooms for 1 week (stacked and out of the boxes with plenty of room inbetween) and only found a slight odor upon opening, have not had any smell from this floor other than a new wood smell which only lasted about week after installation (due to the cuts we made i'm sure).

We love, love, love our new floors. We looked at a lot of different products before deciding on this one. It was by far the most scratch resistant of any natural product we tested. The color is beautiful and the color and the grain are consistent throughout the floor. While we are a little concerned about the fading issue that is inherent in any bamboo product, we are taking precautions to minimize this drawback. It feels great to tell people about our sustainable choice in flooring.

Our family room, hallway and master bedroom were revamped with Carbonized Bamboo plank flooring. The warmth and depth of the color is elegant and very pleasing to see.

Our installers had difficulty using the pneumatic nail gun and their nails kept jamming inside the gun or would twist and buckle when they tried to shoot the nails through the lip on the bamboo. Finally, we got the heavy duty adhesive and the job was completed in two days.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

I just did an entire house in the moring star stranded carbonized bamboo and it looks amazing! I have installed all types of wood and laminate for a while and this was probably the most difficult to install. Make sure your gun is set for 3/4" NOT 1/2". You cannot face nail this product with a brad nailer so get out your drills and finish nails and get ready to do it by hand, and dont forget to bring your patience!

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

Had to replace all the flooring in my house, except for bedrooms this winter. We chose this bamboo for its finish, color variation and durability. To date it has held up wonderfully and is much easier to clean than the laminate I had before. I have moved furniture around (with protectors) and dropped things on the kitchen floor and it still looks great!! The only thing was it was very time consuming nailing it in place, but well worth it.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

We have two Greyhounds who have to build a nest of blankets. We were afraid the finish would scratch. This has not been the case. Finish is excellent. Beautiful shine. Easy to maintain. Only problem we do have, well actually the Greyhounds have, is that the blankets go flying all across the floor. Fantastic product. And, we like the fact that it is sustainable, which makes it good for the environment.
Only problem with install was that the wood is so hard, we had to use strong staples! But, that is still a good thing.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

A great product at an even better price. It is harder to install than real hardwoods like oak and cherry due to the smaller lengths and rigidity. All joints must be perfect or gaps will appear between the boards and you cannot fix them like with other hardwoods. But with careful measuring and planning the job turns out excellent. Also had almost no waste from damaged boards. Well worth the investment.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

I put this product through my house. The finish varied from glossy to matte. The color varied from light to dark. Most boxes had the same date on them (some a few months earlier). I used the earlier (and lighter) boxes in bedrooms, but have a large Living area, and the variation in finishes caused me to have to open all boxes and mix them up. In my application, it wasn't too bad, but there should be a warning that you have to mix the boxes as you go. The durability is wonderful, though!

This product transformed our home. We went from old beat up carpet to a beautiful hardwood floor that is environment-friendly. Pictures do not do this floor justice. Go get the sample and you will see how durable and the beautiful finish of this floor.

The only reason that I did not give it a perfect rating is that we have not had the floor in that long.

Comments about Morning Star 5/8" x 3-3/4" Strand Carbonized Bamboo:

Looks great, for sure. Darn near indestructable as well-- I dropped a hammer on it, and not even a scratch or a dent. Its incredibly dense-- in fact, so dense that its nearly impossible to surface nail!!! And who has time or inclination to predrill holes in flooring?!?!?
We used a regular finish nailer for all our other floors, but after MUCH testing and trial and error, switched to a brad nailer at 140psi. A little extreme...

But it LOOKS great, and the regular flooring nailer (PortaNailer) worked great, once we got that dialed in for depth and air pressure.
